Match Report
This game was, sadly, a low point in the history of Concorde CC. it was, I am informed, the biggest defeat in the history of the club by the small matter of 215 runs! The sad thing is, it really didn’t need to be that bad had we been able to put our hands together to take the odd catch. There was actually one catch held and a very good one at that in the gulley by Justin Redfern but I counted at least 7 other chances spurned of differing levels of difficulty but including at least 3 which fell into the “dolly’ category. Added to two very unsympathetic LBW decisions which generally would be classed as plumb, it is fair to say that Lady luck was partying elsewhere last Sunday.
On a positive note, and there are very few of those to report, there was a very wholehearted bowling effort from Justin Rowland who deserved much better than figures of 2-61 off 12 overs. All the remaining bowlers bowled pretty well in the circumstances and the fact is that with better fielding support, the Opposition total would have been closer to 150 which would have presented a less intimidating total to set our sights on.
Having said that, if our efforts in the field were pathetic, our effort with the bat was probably marginally worse. Against decent but not particularly threatening bowling, the entire team mustered a total of 54 runs of which only 38 came off the bat. Normally I would be quite chuffed to go home and announce to my family that I was top scorer but my total of 10 was nothing to be proud of! The entire batting line up performed as though wearing a blindfold and the game was wrapped up long before 20 overs was scheduled to begin.
